Finding your happy place in fitness.

Did someone say GLOWtopia???

Where does your mind go when someone asks you about your happy place? Maybe it’s the warm weather at the beach, maybe it’s being surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of your home, or maybe it’s settling down on the couch after a long day and drinking a glass of wine (definitely guilty). Whatever or wherever your happy place is, it’s often something that brings you joy or a sense of relief. Something that makes you think that maybe the world is not such a bad place after all :)

We all remember the first time we walked into the gym – yeah, that ONE gym. Happy place is the last way to describe it. Fitness can be intimidating for a lot of people, and that is something we recognize here at GLOW. Fitness should be fun, judgment-free, inclusive, and community-oriented! Almost like a utopia. A utopia is an ideal place you want to be, sort of like your happy place but REALLY happy. Here are some ways people find their utopia in fitness:

  • Music – we’ve all been to that one party where the music sucked. Or that one time at the gym when you forgot your headphones. Never. Again. Music can really take you to another place and completely change your ~vibe~. You might overlook the burn, the endless sweating, and the heavy breathing (guilty again) just because you’re in the zone. The people around you are just bystanders in your rockstar world. GLOW tide sister, GLOW tide…

  • Instructors – let’s go back to that party. You don’t know ANYONE there, but then… BOOM! Bestie makes an appearance and your world lights up. A great instructor is just like that. Almost like doing a workout with a friend rather than a teacher. F is for friends, fitness, and fun!

  • Variety – the sky is the limit in your happy place, and that goes for having the options and FREEDOM to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Good thing fitness is not just about lifting weights. There’s yoga, spin, barre, dance, and more! So much to love.

  • Community – have you ever shown up to a place where you feel like you don’t belong? We tend to gravitate toward places where we can be ourselves. Our ~weird~ selves. Fitness is a form of self-expression, and ideally people come together to be fit through community, not just to be a community of fit people.

  • Balance – life happens, and the last thing you should worry about is adding more stress from something that should be good for you. People use fitness to let off steam, turn off the rest of the world, and just let go. Without balance, all things in life fall out of place. Fitness can reset or completely reframe your day!

So how’s that for a utopia? Whether you’re new to the area, interested in trying a new class, or simply want to make some friends, GLOW hopes to be a utopia for all that and more in Raleigh. A GLOWtopia! We hope to see you soon because we can’t glow without you! Take some time to think about your happy place and share your thoughts with us!

xoxo, GLOW Girl 💖
