3, 2, 1…PLUNGE!

Just chill, let’s talk about the chillest addition to your GLOW routine.

If you have not already heard, the cold plunge is now available at GLOW and we are fangirling over this addition. Cold plunging has so many great benefits on your brain, body, and overall well being; here’s the sparknotes:

🧊 Supports your Immune System

Helps build up immune to fight off future illnesses/diseases by eliminating waste and toxins from your body.

🧊 Boosts energy levels

Triggers your fight-or-flight response that provides energy from the hormone released (called norepinephrine) by the stress created from the cold temps.

🧊 Supports better quality of sleep

Relieves stress and improves stress levels (says adios to those cortisol imbalances), which provides better sleeping opportunities.

🧊 Boosts your metabolism

Puts your metabolic rate into high gear, while your body fights to keep warm you are working your metabolism 8% to 80% more with the circulating cold water.

🧊 Improves your mood and supports mental health

Think about a surge of dopamine and a euphoric feeling, that is how it feels when the timer goes off and you exit the plunge, cold but GOOD! During the plunge your body is put in hermetic stress, aka good stress; what is happening is your body is activating genetic pathways that help regulate general life stressors.

🧊 Reduces soreness

With the circulating cold water your blood vessels go through rapid constructions which helps restore soreness and in turn leads to less inflammation of muscles.

Now as much as we would love to take credit for cold therapy, this method of recovery and healing dates back to 3500 B.C.E., they knew what they were doing back then! We are proud to offer this tried & true, icy experience right here at GLOW!

At this point you could be thinking, “why would I need to emerge myself into a freezing cold body of water when I can just turn my showers cold?” Great question!

While a cold shower might provide a boost of energy and slightly lower body temperature, a cold plunge will significantly lower body temperature (in a safe way), accelerate muscle recovery, support fat loss, create a strong euphoric sensation after, and so much more. Not only is a purpose built cold plunge able to reach temperatures a tap water cold shower can not, it also provides circulating water - forcing your body to stay in a constant state of cold shock.

This method of cold therapy a plunge provides aids in that acceleration of muscle recovery and puts your metabolism into overtime helping with fat loss. Both cold showers and cold plunges have great post relief effects, the plunge just being more effective overall.

We have studied up on our plunge science here at GLOW and are ready to tell you everything, hit us up with  any questions you might have prior to chillin’ it out in the cold plunge!

xoxo, GLOW girl 💖
